Ó LUINÍN—IO Luinyn, O Lonine, O Lonin, Lunneen, Lineen, Linneen, Linnen, Lennon, (Leonard, Linnegar, Lynegar); 'descendant of Luinín' (diminutive of lon, a blackbird); the name of a distinguished Co. Fermanagh family who were erenaghs of Derryvullen, and for many centuries poets, historians, musicians, and physicians to the Maguires. Their chief residence was at Árd Uí Luinín, in the parish of Derryvullan. There were also old families of the name in Carlow and Waterford, where they still flourish. Ó Luinín is very often anglicised Leonard, and, according to O'Donovan, it was also strangely anglicised Linnegar and Lynegar in Co. Fermanagh.
