Ó hUID—I—O'Hood, Hood; 'descendant of *Ud'; the name of an Ulster family who were bards to the O'Neills of Clanaboy. The Annals of Ulster, at the year 1485, record the slaying of Brian Ua hUid, "an honoured poet." Séamus Ó hUid, another distinguished poet of this family, flourished in the latter part of the 17th century. The name is still extant in Antrim and Derry.
