Ó hEOCHADHA—IO Hoa, Howe, Howes, &c.; 'descendant of Eochaidh'; also Ó hEochach, Ó hEochaidh, which see; a variant of Ó hEachadha, which see; the name (1) of an Ulster family who, in the 11th and 12th centuries, were kings of Ulidia, but lost their dignity soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion; still common in Down and Antrim; and (2) of a Meath family who were chiefs of Cinel Aonghusa, and are still numerous in Leinster.
