Ó hEirc

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó hEIRC—IO Herke, O Herrick, Erke, Herrick, Herricks, Harricks; 'descendant of Earc' (red, speckled); the name (1) of an Oriel family who were chiefs of Ui Fiachrach Finn, and seated along the river Derg, in the northwest of Co. Tyrone; and (2) of a Tipperary family. The name seems to have disappeared from Ulster, having, most probably, been changed to Ó hEarcáin (which see), but is still represented in Munster.
