Ó hAILCHE—IIO Hallihey, O Hally, Hally, Halley; 'descendant of Ailche' (a personal name of Danish origin, meaning 'English'); the name of a family, probably of Danish origin, who were seated in the neighbourhood of Templemore, Co. Tipperary. In the 16th century, there were merchant families of the name in Cashel and Kilmallock. It is still common in Tipperary and parts of Limerick.
