Ó GOTHRAIDH—IVO Gogherie, O Goherye, Geoghery, Gohary, Godfrey; 'descendant of Gothfraith' (God-peace, anglicised Godfrey, a name introduced by the Danes and early adopted by the Irish); a not uncommon surname in East Limerick and Tipperary. The family, which is old in that district, is probably of Danish descent.
