Ó GABHRÁIN—IO Gawran, Gowran; 'descendant of Gabhrán' (diminutive of gabhar, a horse, a goat); the name of a branch of the Ui Maine in Co. Galway; now very rare, if not obsolete. Ó Gabhráin, anglicised MacGovern, which is common in the spoken language of Co. Mayo, is probably not the same, but merely a corruption of Mag Shamhráin, which see.
