Ó DRAGHNÁIN, Ó DRAIGHNEÁN—IO Drinane, O Drenan, Drinane, Drinan, Dreinan, Drennan, and, by translation, Thornton; 'descendant of Draighneán' (blackthorn); the name (1) of a branch of the Siol Anmchadha in Co. Galway; and (2) of a Clare family, who were formerly seated in the barony of Corcumroe. The name was also common in Cavan, Westmeath, Leix and Kilkenny.
