Ó Donnamháin

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó DONNAMHÁIN—I—O'Donovan, Donovan; 'descendant of Donndamhán' (brown Damhán or compound of donn, brown, and damh, a poet, with the diminutive termination), the name of a family of Corca Laoighdhe, who were seated in Tuath O Feehily, in O'Driscoll's country, before the O'Donovans of Ui Cairbre settled in that district. "It is highly probable," says Dr. O'Donovan, "that a great number of the O'Donovans of the County of Cork are of this family." (Four Masters, p. 2483).
