Ó DÁBHOIREANN—IO Davoren, O Daverin, O Davern, Davoran, Davoren, Davern; 'descendant of Dubhdábhoireann' (Black of the two Burrens); a shortened form of Ó Duibhdábhoireann; the name of a learned brehon family in Thomond. They belonged originally to Corcomroe, in north-west of Co. Clare, where for successive generations they maintained a great literary and legal school, of which the celebrated Irish antiquary, Duald MacFirbis, was at one time a pupil. The head of the family resided at Lisdoonvarna. The O'Davorans are also numerous in Co. Tipperary, where they seem to have settled before the end of the 16th century.
