Ó CORCRÁIN—I—O Corcrane, O Corkerane, O Corkran, Corcoran, Corkeran, Corkran, &c.; 'descendant of Corcrán' (diminutive of corcair, purple); the name of an ecclesiastical, literary and bardic family in many parts of Ireland. At the end of the 16th century it was largely represented in every province and, in the southern half of Ireland, almost in every county.
