Ó CAITHNIADH—IO Cahenney, O Cany, Caheny, Canny; 'descendant of Caithnia' (battle-champion); the name of a distinguished family of the Ui Fiachrach, in Co. Mayo, who were lords of Erris, in the north-west of that county, until dispossessed by the Barretts in the 13th century. The family is still in Mayo.
