Ó BEAGÁIN—IO Begane, O Began, Begane, Biggane, Beggan, and, by translation, Little, Littleton; 'descendant of Beagán' (diminutive of beag, little); a rare and scattered surname. In Co. Limerick, it is pronounced Ó Bigeáin and sometimes Englished Littleton, a form also in use in parts of Co. Clare.
