Mac NÉILL—IV—MacNeill, MacNeile, MacNeal, &c.; 'son of Niall' (champion); the name (1) of a Scottish clan in Gigha and Barra, two islands off the coast of Argyle, who were followers of the Lord of the Isles, and to which belong probably the MacNeills of Antrim and Derry; and (2) of a branch of the Ui Fiachrach, who were seated in Carra, Co. Mayo, where it is still in use under the form of Mag Réill, which see.
