GOTHFRAID—VIIIGodefraye, Godefrey, Godfrey; 'son of Godfrey,' a Teutonic personal name, variously written as Gothfrith, Guthfrith, etc.; very common among the Normans, by whom it may be said to have been introduced into England, though as Gothfrith it was sometimes found among the Anglo-Saxons.
