de FRÉINS—XIde Freynes, de Freyns, Freins, Frensh, Freynshe, Frensche, French; Norman 'de Freynes,' Latin 'de Fraxinis,' i.e., of the ash-trees (compare with de Fréine above), from residence thereby; the name of an Anglo-Norman family in Co. Wexford. A branch of this family settled in Galway in the 15th century and became one of the 'tribes'; now represented by Lord ffrench and Lord De Freyne.
