Beag

BEAG—IX—Bueg, Begg, Begge, and sometimes, by translation, Little and Small; Irish 'Bheag,' i.e., little, small; a descriptive epithet which supplanted the real surname. Compare with Bán. Note, however, that Bagge, Bege, and Beg occur frequently as English surnames in our early Anglo-Irish records.
