Báldún
BÁLDÚN—VIII—Baldone, Baldoon, Ballon, Baldin, Baldwin; 'son of Baldon' (a diminutive of Baldwin). Families of this name settled soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion in Dublin, Wexford, Kilkenny, Waterford and Cork. The pronunciation is sometimes Bállún or Ballún. The town of Cobh stands in the townland of Ballyvaloon, so called from Baldwin Hodnett, a member of the family who once owned the Great Island.
