ÁTAOI—XI—Athy; Norman 'de Athi,' 'de Athy,' i.e., of Athy in Co. Kildare; the name of an Anglo-Norman family who first settled at Athy. They removed at an early period to Galway, where tradition relates that one of them erected the first stone house or castle. The surname is now very rare.
