ÁIRSDÉICIN—XIIArstekin, Archedekyn, Archdeacon; Norman 'le Erchedekine,' 'le Ercedekne,' 'le Ercedecne,' i.e., the archdeacon; the name of an Anglo-Norman family who settled soon after the invasion in Co. Kilkenny. They were descended from Odo le Ercedekne, from whom, when they became Irish, they took the surname of MacÓda (which see), now anglicised Cody and Coady. At the beginning of the 17th century, the name was also found in Wexford, Waterford and Cork.
