Irish Ballad-Singer

"'Farewell!' And now that my task is done, I find it as difficult a word to say as the poor sodger did, when he was parted from his colleen bawn, and shipped off to foreign parts. I heard the story of their woes sung by a professional ballad-singer at the Curragh of Kildare, and I give the dismal wail of woe, which I hope may have the like effect on a hard-hearted reader that it had on me."
