Castledermot in Kildare. The old name was Disert-dermot, Diarmad's desert or hermitage, from Diarmad son of the king of Ulidia, who founded a monastery there about A. D. 800. The present form of the name is derived from a castle built there by Walter de Riddlesford in the time of Strongbow.
