English, Englishby—These two names are the anglicised forms of Goligly in The Fews, Co. Armagh; and of Golagley more south, in Gaelic Mac An Ghallóglaigh, the "Son of the Galloglass," or Auxiliary soldier. The other anglicisations are Golightly in Co. Louth, and Ingoldsby, the latter name and Englishby being the anglicised forms in the districts surrounding Ardee.
